The opportunity

As a lecturer in Illustration & Visual Media you are responsible for teaching, administration, assessment, curriculum development, and on-going scholarship within the discipline. You will work collaboratively within a course team, deploying specialist expertise to develop pedagogy and the curriculum in innovative and critical directions. You will make a significant contribution to the quality of learning and the support students receive in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully. You will also work with the Course Leader, students and colleagues across the college in promoting and developing the subject through conferences, public exhibitions and other contributions to research and knowledge exchange. You will develop partnerships and collaborations with industry and academic partners as well as bring your own research and/or practice to bear on the development of the subject and the course.

About you

You will have previous experience of teaching in Higher Education or comparable context, and in delivering a high-quality student experience, as well as some knowledge of curriculum development and assessment. You should be comfortable working with diverse cohorts of students and committed to a teaching approach that integrates theory and practice and will engage students through a combination of innovative pedagogy, knowledge exchange and/or research. You will have or should be willing to attain, with UAL’s support, a relevant teaching qualification or recognition.

An MA or equivalent relevant industry experience in fields associated with illustration and visual media is essential. You will have a strong commitment to the advancement of your field, critical discourse in contemporary image production and theoretical and technical exploration of it. You will be proactive and actively contribute to the course and programme’s aims and vision.

You should be a specialist practitioner and/or researcher who is keen to use your academic and/or industry-based experience to support the development of student work on the BA Illustration & Visual Media. You should have a strong understanding of the contemporary context of illustration and visual media in an academic and/or professional setting, and be engaged in relevant networks and communities of practice within this and/or related fields

You should bring an understanding of tools, software and hardware relevant to contemporary image making practices. You should also be invested in keeping your knowledge in this area current and up-to-date.
