The opportunity

The Design School is looking to recruit for a fixed term a Lecturer to the BA Design for Branded Spaces course.

The course explores spatial experiential design as part of an emerging field in creative industries. This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with an experimental and creative approach to experiential design looking to innovate in a range of spatial environments ranging from museums or theatres to outdoor public spaces and retail. The position invites applicants who are particularly interested in facilitating learning of students that come from diverse socio-cultural backgrounds.

As lecturer you will be responsible to the Course Leader for delivery of units that focus on scenographic strategies for experiential design including 3D visualisation skills and emerging technologies such as AR and VR. You will bring research and/or industry and teaching experience at undergraduate level. You will manage and participate in the delivery of student-centered teaching as well as making a significant contribution to the development of the course curriculum, assessment, quality management and recruitment.

About you

We are looking for an individual with a qualification at undergraduate and postgraduate level relevant to the subject of scenographic strategies in experiential design. You will have knowledge of delivering creative projects in a professional environment and experience of a range of specialist skills in relation to experiential design, spatial design and inclusive teaching. You will also have comprehensive knowledge of learning and teaching in international contexts.

As an academic, previous teaching experience at undergraduate level is essential in addition to experience of professional practice as well as initiating partnerships and developing industry collaborative projects. You should also demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of experiential design as it intersects with social justice, climate emergency and other global social, cultural, environmental, political and economic forces that are transforming the design discipline.

The successful candidate should possess effective interpersonal skills and be a student-centred teacher focused on promoting diversity and inclusivity, while demonstrating strong communication and organisational skills. We are looking for applicants who can work collaboratively with colleagues to develop the subject area and share expertise.
