The opportunity

The Design School is looking to recruit a Lecturer to the MA Graphic Branding and Identity course.

The course explores graphic branding at postgraduate level, with focus on the intersections between creative practice and theoretical examination. This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with a highly creative and innovative approach to graphic branding or visual brand identities. The position invites applicants who are interested in the relationship between graphic branding, storytelling, and the exploration of cultural meaning making as a way to push boundaries of the course delivery.

As lecturer you will be responsible to the Course Leader for delivery of the graphic branding units across the course with the focus on brand experience design, culturally based storytelling and inclusive teaching. You will bring research and/or industry and teaching experience at postgraduate level. You will manage and participate in the delivery of student-centered teaching as well as making a significant contribution to the development of the course curriculum, assessment, quality management and recruitment.

About you

We are looking for an individual with a qualification at undergraduate and postgraduate level relevant to the subject area of graphic branding. You will have knowledge of delivering innovative projects in a professional and/or academic environment and experience of a range of specialist skills in relation to brand design and inclusive teaching. You will also have comprehensive working knowledge of design research methodologies, brand semiotics and visual language as part of brand storytelling.

As an academic, previous teaching experience at postgraduate level is essential in addition to experience of research and/or professional practice in graphic branding or equivalent design practice. You wil also be able to cite examples of your approaches to graphic brand storytelling and engagement with cultural contexts. You should also demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of graphic branding practice as it intersects with social justice, climate emergency and other global social, cultural, environmental, political and economic forces that are transforming the design discipline.

The successful candidate should possess effective interpersonal skills and be a student-centred teacher focused on promoting diversity and inclusivity, while demonstrating strong communication and organisational skills. We are looking for applicants who can work collaboratively with colleagues to develop the subject area and share expertise.
