The opportunity

not just a shop sells unique home, fashion, giftware and artwork by UAL students and alumni both in-store and online. Outside of retail hours it’s also a learning space; with a programme of enterprise events designed to help UAL students and alumni to launch and develop their creative businesses.

The not just a shop Retail and Student Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for the day to day running of not just a shop retail operations, including taking sales, stock control, and maintaining and updating displays. Alongside this they will be responsible for coordinating and supporting student facing opportunities and engagements to create new products and items to sell, and increase the volume of student and recent graduate sellers.

not just a shop is led by Careers and Employability, the University's dedicated careers and enterprise service that supports students and graduates to make a living doing what they love.

About you

You must have:

  • Understanding and knowledge of retail and selling activities (particularly of art or design led products or gifts)
  • Understanding and knowledge of designer-maker businesses and business support needs
  • Sales experience working in a retail environment (preferably within a creative/cultural environment).
  • Experience working in Higher Education or an education environment and/or working with creative students (desirable)
  • Administrative or office working experience.
  • Experience of delivering projects and managing associated budgets effectively.

You must be able to:

  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing, with good interpersonal skills and excellent customer service care skills.
  • Plan, prioritise and organise work to achieve objectives on time
  • Work collaboratively in a team and where appropriate across or with different professional groups.
  • Provide a positive and responsive customer service.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with students and graduates, and understands their needs to provide a beneficial experience and service.
  • Use initiative or creativity to resolve day-to-day operations and customer problems
  • Use creativity to come up with ideas and put them into practice.
