The opportunity

The University Disability Service works together with students and staff to promote and inclusive learning environment where disabled students are able to succeed. The Service champions the social model of disability. The University is seeking to appoint a temporary Head of Disability to provide maternity leave cover.

You will lead the University Disability Service team, being responsible for line-managing the Service management team and leading activities to develop the service. You will manage the Service’s relationships with key stakeholders. You will also deliver some advice directly to students with complex requirements and be responsible for service budgets and management information reporting,

As the institutional lead for student disability matters, you will provide expert consultancy to the University and co-ordinate training programmes and projects to promote an inclusive learning environment.

The Disability Service is co-located with other Student Services offers (Advice and Funding, Counselling, Health Advice and Chaplaincy). You will work closely alongside other members of the Student Services management group, collaborating effectively to co-ordinate effort and contributing to cross-service developments and training.

About you

You will have considerable experience of advice-giving, leadership and line management. Your experience could be based within another sector, but you will have a thorough knowledge of how the social model of disability and the disability provisions of the Equality Act (2010) apply within Further- and Higher Education contexts. You will have successful experience of collaborating and encouraging inclusive practices, as well as working in a team, project-management and problem-solving. In addition, you will be educated to degree level, and ideally hold a postgraduate management or leadership qualification.
