The opportunity

The Lecturer in Graphic Design (Theory and Practice) is responsible for teaching, curriculum development, and on-going scholarship on the Graphic Design Programme at Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon Colleges of Art. We are looking for someone focused on context and dealing with complexity – framing and addressing problems within a larger scale. The post-holder will possess specialist knowledge and/or experience of a particular aspect(s) of Graphic Design practice, theory and thinking and demonstrate experience/expertise in at least three or more of the following areas: Editorial/Publishing, Branding and Strategy, Typography, Moving Image and Animation, Design History and Writing and Visual Culture.

Requirements of the Role:


  • Undergraduate degree in Graphic Design, Communications, or relevant field (Essential)
  • Master’s Degree in Design, Communications, or relevant field (Essential)
  • PhD in Design or relevant field (Desirable)
  • Teaching qualification (PG Cert or equivalent) (Desirable)
  • Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (Desirable)
  • Experience of teaching & assessment in a higher education environment (permanent, fractional, or hourly paid contract)
  • Applies an inquiring, innovative and reflexive approach to teaching
  • Considers and promotes equality, diversity and inclusivity in all aspects of teaching and assessment
  • Shows commitment to understanding the range of students’ experiences within a course
  • Collaborates and works effectively within team and across different professional groups
  • Works effectively and respectfully with a wide range of people
  • Evidence of research, knowledge exchange and/ or professional practice that contributes to the advancement of graphic design activity and is relevant to the goals of the Programme, College and University
  • Evidence of using contacts within subject peer group to develop partnerships or collaboration
  • Plans, prioritises and manages resources effectively to achieve objectives
