The opportunity

The Course Leader will be responsible for leading and managing the BA User Experience Design course in terms of curriculum development, teaching & learning and on-going research and scholarship.

You will work collaboratively within the programme and lead the course team, deploying specialist expertise to develop innovative pedagogy and the curriculum in critical and inventive directions.  

You will be responsible for -

•       The academic leadership and management of the Course, including the maintenance and enhancement of standards and responsibility for the design, development and delivery of the curriculum. 

•        Day-to-day management of the Course including all areas of learning, teaching and assessment of students as well as resources allocated.

•       Observing and implementing the policies and procedures of the University and the College.

•       Developing the curriculum that situates user experience design within human and post-human centred debates and critical practice.

•       Engaging with and contributing to school and college level activities related to socially and ecologically responsible design.

About you

You will have previous experience of teaching in Higher Education or a comparable context, and in delivering a high-quality student experience, as well as experience of academic leadership and management of courses or year groups, and curriculum development. You engage students through a combination of innovative pedagogy, knowledge exchange and/or research. You will have or should be willing to attain, with UAL’s support, a relevant teaching qualification or recognition.

An MA or equivalent relevant industry experience in fields associated with experience design or closely related disciplines is essential. You will have a strong commitment to the advancement and expansion of your field, and to critical practice using emergent technologies and applying these in an academic or professional context. You will be motivated to effectively manage and lead the course team, working closely and actively leading on the course’s aims and vision.

You should be a specialist practitioner and/or researcher who is keen to use your academic and/or industry-based experience to develop the vision of the course and support the development of student work. You should have a strong understanding of the contemporary context of experience design in an academic and/or professional setting and be engaged in relevant networks and communities of practice within this and/or related fields.

You should bring an understanding of the critical and ethical potential of experience design practice and relevant theory and be invested in keeping your knowledge in this area current and up to date.
