The opportunity

We are seeking to appoint a counsellor who is qualified and experience in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

The post offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to join our Counselling and Health Advice Service.

You will be a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with experience of working with a diverse range of issues to support students to engage successfully with their studies and University life. You will have the ability to work flexibly, skills for brief/time-limited work, a good understanding of the demands of working and risk management within an educational setting.

You will be based at the University’s Student Centre at High Holborn and one other college site.

This new post is part of the extended Saturday availability and will involve working on Saturdays (40 weeks a year). 

About you

You will have a degree, a postgraduate counselling qualification which includes a core CBT component or a CBT training, and have professional accreditation with BACP, BABCP or equivalent.

 Your experience will include:-

  •  undertaking assessments;
  • managing casework;
  • working to brief/time limited contracts;
  • working      with clients from diverse backgrounds
  • a strong track record of responding proactively to      crisis situations and of managing risk concerns;
  • interventions to alleviate difficulties affecting      functioning and to promote mental well-being,
  • experience of delivering psycho-educational workshops
  • working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

You will have a good understanding of the needs of university students. a flexible collaborative approach, excellent liaison skills and the ability to contain anxiety in yourself and others.
