The opportunity

A unique opportunity to develop and shape state-of-the-art provision for research and innovation in the emergent Fashion, Textiles and Technology Institute (FTTI), which will be hosted at the new University of the Arts East Bank estate from September 2023.

Building on the successful delivery of a £5.5mil AHRC Creative Research and Development Partnership (CRDP) funding award – the Business of Fashion, Textiles and Technology (BFTT), FTTI will play a pivotal role in creating impactful solutions across the fashion and textiles industry, with a focus on tackling climate change, through it’s unique, multi-disciplinary collaboration with HEI, industry and community partners.

As Deputy Director of the FTTI, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating engagement across the FTTI community, working closely with the FTTI Director and FTTI colleagues to create opportunities for partners, academics and students to work together, with the aim of delivering world class innovation in research, R&D, teaching and learning.

To achieve this, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Coordination and management of an internal FTTI academic steering group, alongside an external trans-disciplinary advisory group.
  • Maintaining excellent stakeholder and partner relationships.
  • Oversight of the FTTI academic research funding and bid development strategy.
  • Ensuring optimisation of impact from delivery of FTTI research.
  • Maintaining your own area of specialist research fields, aligning to FTTI interests.
  • Oversight and development of a specialist FTTI Post Graduate Research (PGR) strategy, including the development of MRes and PGR courses in collaboration with partner HEIs.
  • Supervision of PHD and PGR research students.

About you

You will need senior academic and/or equivalent professional experience in a leadership role in the public, service, creative or HEI sectors, along with a recognised active national/international research practice/profile.

You will also need experience of developing and writing research proposals, funding bids and contract research.

Successful experience of impact delivery or experience of REF is important.

If you have any queries about this role or need any reasonable adjustments for your application, please contact Twinkle Brahmbhatt, Senior Resourcing Adviser via email at RKEEstaffrecruitment@arts.ac.uk.
