The opportunity

The Design School at London College of Communication is looking to recruit 2 lecturers to teach and develop the curriculum on our highly successful Contextual and Theoretical Studies (CTS) units.

Contextual and Theoretical Studies delivers critical, historical and theoretical Units to all 8 undergraduate courses in the Design School. These courses are BA Design for Branded Spaces, BA Design Management and Cultures, BA Design for Art Direction, BA Graphic Branding and Identity, BA Graphic Media Design, BA Illustration & Visual Media, BA Interaction Design Arts and BA Interface and Information Design. We are seeking candidates who have the knowledge and expertise to teach across all of these courses. You will be expected to teach at all levels on our undergraduate provision.

The successful candidate will manage and participate in the delivery of innovative teaching as well as making a significant contribution to pedagogic delivery, assessment, quality management and recruitment. There will also be opportunities to continue your research on the subject and contribute to a fast-paced and forward-thinking team. The appointed candidate will work under the direction of the CTS Coordinators and contribute to School, College and University initiatives including research.

About you

You will have a relevant degree and postgraduate qualification (or equivalent) and you will be an experienced teacher who has taught contextual and critical theory and practice at Higher Education level before. You will have experience of unit management and the delivery of cross course units. You will be comfortable liaising with internal and external stakeholders, working as part of a team and sharing your knowledge and expertise. You will be expected to continue your research, while inspiring students and developing affective and innovative pedagogical practices. The successful candidate should possess good interpersonal skills and the ability to lead and manage part time staff as well as be an innovative teacher. Candidates should demonstrate subject knowledge as well as skills relevant to subject development within an academic, research and professional context.
