The opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Digital Media team. We work at the cutting edge of new thinking and developments to prepare our students for successful careers in the creative industries of the future. The Digital Media technical resource provides technical support to students from a range of subject areas that include, Graphic and Communication Design, Fashion, Fine Art, Architecture, Product Design, Curating and Criticism. 

You will create and deliver workshops and provide technical support for day-to-day operation of resources linked to the delivery of Physical Computing practices. You will play an integral part of the technical team, contributing your experience working in Physical Computing, Programming and Coding. You will have the opportunity to develop new skills and experience across a wide range of technical workshops. This post is largely a flexible role and you will work to a structured roster over the course of the year.

Your role will encompass communicating with staff and students across the college and ensure access to up-to-date and accurate information for students, academics, fellow technicians and other university staff.

About you

We are looking for a creative, self-motivated person who can contribute to the technological development of the department. You should have a qualification within the relevant area (ie Art, Design, Engineering) or have relevant industry experience in an area related to digital making. Candidates should have an interest in contemporary questions of computing in the arts and relish the challenge of supporting a diverse range of talented and renowned academics. 

The successful applicant will have knowledge of –

Physical Computing:

- Arduino, Raspberry Pi and other electronic prototyping platforms (essential)

- Electronics (essential)

- Programming languages such as C/C++/Python (essential)

 

Other Specialist knowledge of:

- Multi-platform deployment skills (e.g. Smartphone, iPhone & iPad) (desirable)

- TouchDesigner (desirable)

- Machine Learning/AI (desirable)

- Robotics (desirable)

We are looking for someone who is a good communicator and enthusiastic about imparting knowledge to students. You will need to be confident in explaining technical information clearly to people with varying abilities in the context of art and design education.
