Associate Lecturer MA 3D Computer Animation

The opportunity

We seek an enterprising digital media practitioner with a specialism in 3D computer animation to teach 3D animation content creation on the MA 3D computer animation course. The role requires teaching and assessing of coursework. We are looking for someone with solid experience in the field of 3D and/or VFX content creation and with an interest in industry standard animation. There will be an opportunity for the successful candidate to contribute to the development of curriculum. Applicants must be in a position to begin teaching from Wednesday 5th October 2021. This is a face to face teaching role along with online support in work hours.

The role

Your main responsibility will be to support the MA 3D animation course leader on the teaching, development and assessment of a part of the Advanced and experimental 3D animation unit. You will make a significant contribution to the quality of learning and support our students in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully.

You will work closely with other academic staff, including the Programme Director.

This is a per hour role however there will be the opportunity to have at minimum 12 hours per week.

About you

The ideal candidates will have worked or are currently working with 3D software in animation or related industries (e.g. gaming, engineering, architecture, product prototyping, visual effects,VR) or you will have experience teaching and delivering 3D animation to a high standard. You will have a good understanding of the 3D animation pipeline and be proficient in and willing to teach industry standard software, such as Maya, 3D equalizer, Adobe Creative Suite, Renderman, Arnold, Deadline renderfarm and Ftrack. The role requires delivery of technical workshops, tutorials, seminar and lectures for one or more of the software above on the Advanced and experimental 3D animation unit, and also marking and assessing of coursework. Experience of working with higher education students and enhancing the student experience as well as connections to the industry are desirable. Candidates will be expected to have a degree in a relevant field.

The MA 3D computer animation is a practice-led course which seeks to develop technical computing skills, animation, editing and interaction with VFX content, and culminates in a collaborative project preparing students for integrated roles in the VFX and animation industry.
