The opportunity

To cover temporary staff vacancy for the 2020–21 academic year, MA Graphic Communication Design would like to identify new potential hourly paid Associate Lecturers to act as tutorial group leaders across both years of the course. Tutors are central to delivery of the curriculum and development of students’ independent practice, leading weekly learning groups of up to 15 students through discussion of curricular themes as well as through verbal feedback and critique of student work. Tutors act as students’ primary staff contact in the course, maintain a holistic and long-term view of student development, and lead in the assessment of student work. Tutors also occasionally write project briefs and contribute to discussions around the development and delivery of core curriculum.

Teaching and learning in the 2020–21 academic year will blend face-to-face and online delivery. Weekly tutorial groups are expected to take place face-to-face at the college, but larger group sessions, supporting activities, and staff meetings are expected to be held online.

Note that the need for additional hourly paid staff on MA Graphic Communication Design during the 2020–21 cycle is based on reaching anticipated enrolment minimums. Where appropriate, we may also recommend suitable candidates for similar roles on BA Graphic Communication Design in case of higher than anticipated enrolment on that course.

What we offer

We are UAL

Central Saint Martins is a world-leading centre for arts and design education. Its reputation stems from the creative energy of its staff and students and the stellar achievements of its graduates nationally and internationally. The nine programmes at CSM explore the boundaries of their discipline. Students and staff are continually alert to new ideas and are curious and restless in developing beyond the expected norms of their subject, so emerging work is at the forefront of its area. CSM sits at the heart of London’s creative scene, and of one of Europe’s most dynamic new culture and innovation quarters at King’s Cross, making the college increasingly important to London’s cultural life, and indicative of our general desire to open up CSM to as broad an audience as possible.

MA Graphic Communication Design MA Graphic Communication Design brings critical depth and rigour to an increasingly noisy and disorienting visual landscape. The course intervenes meaningfully in a world continuously reconfigured by its modes of communication and knowledge production. The course is distinguished by its pursuit of a critically engaged and rigorous practice that integrates graphic communication design and traditional academic research. An important aim of the course is to facilitate the formation of communities around a dynamic and evolving subject field. We recognize that our challenge—and opportunity—is to engage students and staff collaboratively and inclusively in the continual co-creation of our subject field, together interrogating existing forms of knowledge as well as shaping new forms.

MA Graphic Communication Design is part of the Graphic Communication Design Programme, which also includes BA Graphic Communication Design. You can view examples of recent student work and find out more about the course and the programme here:
