The opportunity

We are looking for an Acting Stage Leader for Year 2 of BA Graphic Communication Design (Fixed Term for one Year) at Central Saint Martins. This is an exciting opportunity to join an ambitious and dynamic course team that promotes creative experimentation, academic research and critical practice. The Stage Leader will oversee the continued rollout of the revalidated curriculum and new course structure in Stage 2 that builds on the progressive and internationally renowned reputation of the course and its alumni.

This Stage Leader post involves responsibility for the operational and academic management of the second year of BA Graphic Communication Design, as well as a teaching role in the course. It includes providing academic overview, strategic leadership and coordinating monitoring across the year group, providing pastoral and academic support and leading on unit briefings and the process and parity of assessment and feedback. In Stage 2 students work across a choice of five Platforms, each of which correspond to an area of practice; Time & Movement, Narrative & Voice, Strategy & Identity, Information & Systems and Experience & Environments. The Stage Leader assists with the coordination of negotiated student choice and movement across Platforms at three scheduled points in the year. In addition the role has potential for building external relationships, enterprise and event opportunities.

Stage Leaders play a key role in the Graphic Communication Design programme management team and work closely with colleagues from across the course and programme to shape the academic direction and future of the discipline, maintain academic standards and enhance the quality of student experience. 

About you

You possess excellent communication and organisational skills and have a track record of working effectively as part of team. You have experience of teaching, leadership and management within a higher education environment, and strong skills in strategic planning, implementation and delivery. You bring initiative and agility and enjoy working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. You demonstrate expertise in teaching and learning and providing excellence in student support.

You have an established practice and a professional profile in graphic communication design or a related discipline. You are actively engaged with current discipline debates and in developing work that will contribute to the growing knowledge exchange and research culture in the Graphic Communication Design programme. You bring commitment to exploring, expanding and progressing the field of graphic communication design.
