The opportunity

Reporting to the International Tax Accountant the Compliance Officer (Criminal Finances Act) will lead on the provision of a professional tax compliance advisory service to staff and students within the University with respect to the Criminal Finance Act 2017, IR35 and other legislative compliance requirements. The post holder will lead the development and implementation of suitable policies and procedures together with appropriate guidance in accordance with relevant tax legislation, ensuring that the policies are made available across the University. The post holder will be responsible for monitoring and reviewing internal controls and developing appropriate training and guidance to ensure continuance compliance across the University.

The post holder must have significant experience in providing advice on tax compliance, explaining technical issues in a way that non finance colleagues can understand, and managing effectively a caseload of compliance queries. The post holder will also have strong communication skills and experience in building relationships with budget managers, internal stakeholders and external advisers.

The post holder will have excellent interpersonal skills as well as strong management information skills.

The post holder will have responsibility for developing and delivering suitable training to support the compliance advisory function.

About you

We are looking for:

  • An accountant with extensive and detailed knowledge of tax compliance in the UK and internationally
  • Sound knowledge of UK and international financial reporting standards and their application
  • Good knowledge of financial reporting systems with specific knowledge of Agresso
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral, with proven ability to explain complex technical/tax information
  • Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office, email, Agresso, web/internet, electronic diary
  • Proven experience of providing complex specialist advice and experience of developing policies and procedures.
