The opportunity

This exciting role offers the chance to work with highly creative and inventive students in a fast paced, technical workshop environment where you will be nurturing the talents of future designers and passing on your own expertise and knowledge to a new generation.

Our knit workshop is open to both undergraduate and postgraduate Fashion and Textiles students with varying levels of experience and skills, making this a particularly demanding but rewarding role. You will help them realise their designs by supporting them in the safe use of equipment, demonstrating techniques and processes using domestic and Dubied knitting machines and advising on use of materials & yarns.

Other tasks will include maintaining equipment, supporting specialist technicians, assisting with the ordering of yarns and building good relationships with suppliers and contractors.

A good working knowledge of using a Stoll digital Knitting machine would be advantageous, alongside experience of using M1 Plus software help students realise their designs, for both Fashion & Textiles students.

About you

Ideally a Fashion/Textile knit graduate with an industry, teaching or technical background, you will have a sound grasp of machine knitting, fabric and stitch construction and an understanding of garment making and finishing. Experience of machine maintenance, excellent problem-solving skills and a high level of health & safety awareness will be vital and an excellent working knowledge of yarns and their qualities is essential. Industry or Educational experience of using the Stoll/M1 Plus software would be advantageous.
