The opportunity

We are seeking an outstanding, experienced and enthusiastic Project Assistant to provide administrative support for a groundbreaking programme combining artist residencies with artistic commissioning at scale. The 20/20 project is funded by Freelands Foundation, Arts Council England and UAL. Based at the Decolonising Arts Institute and managed by the Project Producer, the post holder will work closely with the Decolonising Arts Institute Director, Project Partners, Working Group and Advisory Group members, and other project stakeholders. The responsibilities of this essential role will include setting up meetings, maintaining records, organising programme and network activities and events, supporting stakeholder relationships, assisting with publicity, and liaising with project partners and other University departments and teams.

About you

You have a first degree in a relevant subject and administrative knowledge in relation to artists’ residencies and commissioning. In particular, you will have relevant experience of working on large-scale projects with multiple partners and experience of supporting creative practice, plus experience of organising events/meetings, workshops and promotional media. You will also have experience of drafting communications for different stakeholders, preparing project documents, compiling progress reports and disseminating information in accessible and inclusive ways to diverse audiences.

If you have any queries about this role or need any reasonable adjustments for your application, please contact Twinkle Brahmbhatt, Senior Resourcing Adviser via email at RKEEstaffrecruitment@arts.ac.uk or 020 7514 2965.

What we offer

We are UAL

For the fifth year running, University of the Arts London is the world’s second University for Art and Design in the QS World University Rankings® 2023. Our diverse and talented community comprises over 5,000 academic, professional, and technical staff. Together we are committed to social purpose. This includes creating a better a more sustainable world and championing race equality.

We offer highly creative working environments that inspire staff across all areas to fulfil their potential and continuous training to further develop their skills and expertise. We also offer hybrid and flexible working practices, and excellent staff benefits to improve your work life balance.

The UAL Decolonising Arts Institute seeks to challenge colonial and imperial legacies and drive cultural, social and institutional change. We imagine the Institute as a decentred, disruptive, evolving and porous space, creating interdisciplinary collaborations and research-driven projects through partnerships across UAL and beyond.

20/20 is an ambitious commissioning and network programme led by UAL’s Decolonising Arts Institute, placing 20 artists in residence with 20 public art collections across the UK. Combining virtual/online and physical/onsite artist residencies with commissioning at scale, 20/20 will lead to a new permanent acquisition in each host collection. 20/20 sets out to build stronger relationships between UK collections. It will support inclusive engagement between collections and the communities they serve, to generate richer understanding of collections’ histories and the contributions of the under-represented or overlooked artists in their midst.
