The opportunity

Course title: Sound Arts & Design: Sound Culture

An Associate Lecturer is sought to deliver part of second-year undergraduate unit “Sound Culture: Perception and Communication”. The emphasis is aesthetic, ideological, technological and socio-political concerns relating to contemporary sound practices.

You should have had previous experience of undergraduate teaching, delivery design, assessment criterias, learning outcomes and online feedback tools (Moodle).

You will be delivering the Spring term content of the Sound Culture module. The first part of this contextual (essay based) unit has covered sound, modernity and post-modernity, introductions to sound and gender and sound and (post)-colonialism, media archaeology and eco-sonic media. 

Following the content that you will deliver the summer term is taught by Salome Voegelin author of Listening to Noise and Silence: Towards a Philosophy of Sound Art and Sonic Possible Worlds: Hearing the Continuum of Sound).

Your main responsibility will be preparation, teaching, administration and assessment of a unit or part of a unit. You will make a significant contribution to the quality of learning and support our students receive in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully.

About you

The scope of the content is broad and should be based in your current practice and research: possible topics have historically included sonic research methodologies, semantics and representation, sonic canons, anti-canons and ca(non)s, sound and social relations, sound archives, identity narratives, critiques of audio-technical discourse, performance and performativity, essay writing skills as well as site visits, exhibitions, concerts and so on.
