The opportunity

In this role, you will support colleagues to develop and deliver online teaching and learning activities, and to facilitate teaching delivery for the Central Saint Martins Birkbeck MBA and the MA Arts and Cultural Enterprise. The courses are located in the Culture and Enterprise Programme, which currently comprises BA Culture, Criticism and Curation, MA Culture, Criticism and Curation, MA Applied Imagination in the Creative Industries, and MA Innovation Management. All are theory, rather than studio-based, courses.

MA Arts and Cultural Enterprise is aimed at graduates with some years of work experience who wish to challenge themselves by gaining skills in the design, planning and production of creative cultural events, programmes, and interventions in the broadest sense. It offers its students insights into cultural policy, an introduction to business skills and processes, and strategic and operational planning, which will equip them to shape creative futures. The Central Saint Martins Birkbeck MBA is a different kind of MBA that places creative approaches and social engagement at the heart of future management and leadership. The course challenges the orthodox business school approach to education, and instead focuses on cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Both courses run in blended mode, as low-residency experiences, supported by extensive use of online teaching (via an enhanced Virtual Learning Environment).

The role will include staff training, preparation of materials, support for teaching and learning, and delivery and project management responsibilities, some of which occurs outside the working week and the standard academic year (e.g. weekends and Summer schools).

About you

We’re looking for an unusual combination of skills, knowledge and experience: an educator, who also has a strong practical interest in implementing pedagogical innovation, particularly in the area of online delivery and blended-learning models. The course features a range of course teaching and learning activities that are delivered predominantly online; so you will have a solid track record in managing and delivering digital learning projects.

You will be comfortable not only with undertaking the planning and technical design of online teaching units, in collaboration with other teaching staff, but also with training, and providing continuing support for staff and students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds. The role will involve a significant amount of academic administration and content management, as well as being responsive to student needs and enquiries.

The role will require you to be an enthusiastic advocate for further enhancement and innovation in the teaching processes, structure, and content delivery on the course. You will preferably be qualified to Masters’ level, and ideally have a recognised teaching qualification in Higher Education. An interest in creative management, arts enterprise and cultural innovation, or in art, design and the humanities generally, would be an advantage.

In return, University of the Arts London offers generous leave, an attractive pension and a commitment to your continuing personal development and training in an environment that encourages excellence, creativity and diversity.

What we offer

We are UAL

Central Saint Martins is a world-leading centre for arts and design education.  Its reputation stems from the creative energy of its staff and students and the stellar achievements of its graduates nationally and internationally.  The nine programmes at CSM explore the boundaries of their discipline.  Students and staff are continually alert to new ideas, and are curious and restless in developing beyond the expected norms of their subject, so emerging work is at the forefront of its area.  CSM sits at the heart of London’s creative scene, and of one of Europe’s most dynamic new culture and innovation quarters at King’s Cross, making the college increasingly important to London’s cultural life, and indicative of our general desire to open up CSM to as broad an audience as possible.
