The opportunity

Our Director of Health and Safety is a brand new role for the University.  Reporting to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Chief Operating Officer) and leading a newly created central team supporting specific business areas, you will lead, develop and deliver engaging, creative and innovative approaches which support the development and delivery of a high-performance health and safety culture. In leading this strategy and implementation for our 2,800 salaried staff, 19,000 students and visitors, you will have a pivotal and visible leadership role in achieving our ambition whereby excellent health and safety is accepted and expected. 

About you

Applications are welcome from across sectors.  Candidates will be recognised leaders in their field and able to demonstrate a contribution to health and safety national and regional agendas. Your track record will include experience of autonomous leadership and evidence of having identified issues, provided solutions and influenced others to adopt solutions in regard to health and safety performance. You will also be a proven change manager, able to demonstrate your ability to manage structural and cultural change across large and complex organisations. First class communication skills with the ability to persuade and influence multiple stakeholders are essential.
