The opportunity

Your main responsibilities will be the preparation, teaching, administration and evaluation of the two-day ‘Thinking Teaching’ staff development course. You will also support participants to make applications to become Associate Fellows of the Higher Education Academy.

The ‘Thinking Teaching’ course has been designed to orient participants to the purpose and practice of teaching in higher education. It situates participants’ teaching in a meaningful context of practice and pedagogic theory and is geared towards UAL staff who are new into teaching/student-facing activity. Over the next two years the University intends to establish this course as a baseline requirement for all staff who teach or supporting learning at UAL.

You will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge in the context of arts educational development. You will work closely with other academic staff, including the Programme Director and Course Leaders of the PgCert and MA Academic Practice in Art, Design and Communication, and the Programme Director, Curriculum Development.

About you

You will have knowledge and experience in educational development in the arts or related fields (e.g. social sciences or humanities). A teaching qualification in higher education teaching and learning is a requirement, as is as a postgraduate degree in a related subject area and Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. These will be complemented by disciplinary knowledge and expertise; effective teamworking; and a commitment to enhancing the student experience.

Applicants should have:

  • a postgraduate degree in a related subject

  • a PgCert in higher education teaching and learning

  • extensive educational development experience, for example teaching on a PgCert in higher education

  • good awareness of HE teaching and learning in the creative arts

  • Fellowship of the HEA.

If you have any queries about this role, you may contact the Academic Practice Programme Director, Catherine Smith at: c.h.smith@arts.ac.uk

This opportunity is closed to applications.
