The opportunity

The London College of Communication is looking to appoint a Lecturer in Interaction Design to join an interdisciplinary team of designers and artists working at the forefront of the field to work across both the MA Interaction Design Communication and BA (Hons) Interaction Design Arts courses.

We are committed to expanding the field of interaction design and challenging notions of its identity in the contemporary landscape, and the appointee will play an active role in shaping this evolution of the subject.

As part of your duties you will have the opportunity to bring your own practice and research interests into the delivery of new units and workshops throughout the year in this constantly evolving teaching environment. You will be working with a widely interdisciplinary and international cohort of students, and your role will include leading seminars as well as participating in one-to-one tutorials, advising them on their theoretical and practical projects.

Candidates are expected to be active researchers/practitioners and to actively contribute to the culture within the school and the programme.

You will be responsible for contributing to and developing engaging, challenging and inventive curricula and teach through lectures, workshops, tutorials and seminars. You will bring research and/or industry experience, and teaching experience at postgraduate level. You will make a significant contribution to pedagogic delivery, assessment, quality management and recruitment.

The appointed candidate will work under the direction of Course Leaders for both MA Interaction Design Communication and Interaction Design Arts, as well as alongside the other lecturers to deliver the validated courses as well as contributing to School, College and University initiatives including research.

About you

We are looking for candidates with backgrounds in fields such as ecological/nonhuman-centred design, posthumanism, postcolonial studies, moving image/lens culture, queer theory, critical AI/ML research, practice-based research, STS, and critical art/design. Experience with any combination of these topics in art and design research/practice contexts is essential.

Both practitioners and researchers (and hybrids of both), as well as applicants from non-traditional professional backgrounds, are encouraged to apply for this position.

As an academic, previous experience of curriculum development is desired in addition to experience of academic research. We expect you to have a national/international reputation for research and/or practice in critical digital art and design.

The successful candidate should possess good interpersonal skills and be an inventive teacher. Candidates should demonstrate subject knowledge as well as skills relevant to subject development within an academic, research and professional context.
