The opportunity

The Lecturer in Ecology, is responsible for delivering of a range of content related to regenerative design knowledge and key ecological principles on the MA Regenerative Design course.

The MA Regenerative Design course is a brand new online course that incorporates principles of deep ecology and living system thinking and a fundamental understanding of planetary health to develop new design propositions that can help empower communities and restore our biodiversity and climate. You will inform the curriculum through your knowledge and expertise working on increasing the impact and relevance of research and regenerative design pedagogies.

The post-holder is responsible for delivering a range of ecological approaches on the MA Regenerative Design course and will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary course team (with a designer and an ecologist), deploying specialist expertise to develop pedagogy and curriculum for design students to learn about key ecological principles.

About you

Requirements of the role:

    • Undergraduate degree in ecology or associated subject.
    • A strong holistic knowledge of the relationship between the environment and the UN Sustainability Goals, as well as of current legislation, and policies relating to climate action is essential.
    • Experience of teaching & assessment in a higher education environment (permanent, fractional, or hourly paid contract), including experience of online/ blended learning.
    • Applies an inquiring, innovative and reflexive approach to teaching.
    • Considers equality, diversity and inclusivity in all aspects of teaching and assessment.
    • Shows commitment to understanding the range of students’ experiences within a course.
    • Collaborates and works effectively within team and across different professional groups.
    • Evidence of research, knowledge exchange and/ or professional practice that contributes to the advancement of sustainable design activity and is relevant to the goals of the Programme, College and University.
    • Deep ecology and living system thinking and teaching in topics such as planetary boundaries, permaculture, circular and regenerative systems, biodiversity framework, climate research and science-based targets, nature conservation and rewilding.
    • Evidence of using contacts within subject peer group to develop partnerships or collaboration.
    • Familiar with debates and research relating to decolonising the curriculum and awarding gaps within the HE Sector.
    • Plans, prioritises and manages resources effectively to achieve objectives.
    • Higher degree (e.g. MA) in design studies, engineering, materials science or associated subject (Desirable).
    • Teaching qualification (PG Cert or equivalent) (Desirable).
    • Member of the Higher Education Academy (Desirable).
