The opportunity

College/Service: Central Saint Martins OR Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon Colleges

There are now two equivalent Director of College Administration roles available at UAL. One Director of Administration will be based at the College of Central St Martins. The other will be based at Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon Colleges.  Your application will be considered for both roles, but if you have a preference for one over the other, please make this clear in your application letter.

Working closely with the Pro Vice-Chancellor/Head of College, the Director of College Administration is responsible for the provision of high level strategic and policy advice, for the effective and efficient use of resources, and the overseeing of operations in the College in relation to the College’s strategic and academic priorities.

Strategic thinking and strong operational delivery ability will certainly be important as you lead professional services either at Central Saint Martins or Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon Colleges. But what will really make the difference is your way with people. From the collaborative relationships you forge with senior staff, to the inspirational approach you take to leading and developing people, you’ll be recognised for your organisational abilities, enthusiasm and expertise.

Central St Martins has a global reputation for responding to changes in art, design, and performance practice in the context of global challenges of social justice and environmental stewardship. Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon Colleges are prestigious establishments with a track record of teaching and nurturing impressive talent. The success of all our colleges is partly due to our dedicated employees, and you’ll play an important role in shaping future creative professionals, and impact on the future of so many creative industries.

Joining our Executive Group and Senior Management Teams, you too will need to embrace change and thrive on the challenge to deliver improvements. The ability to strategically and operationally refine services and evolve practices while responding at pace to all manner of day to day matters is what makes this role so stimulating.

About you

You will have extensive experience of leading administration and operational delivery in a complex environment, probably but not essentially, in a higher education environment.

Thinking ahead while making a difference in the here and now, you’ll drive forward Central Saint Martins’ or Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon’s strategic vision while maintaining outstanding operational delivery. You’ll be instrumental to ensuring positive experiences for staff and students alike. Our most senior leaders will rely on your leadership and guidance for the effective and efficient use of resources in this high profile role. You will ensure professional services and the people who deliver them keep moving forward by developing and communicating service expectations, operating models, values and behaviours – and you’ll do it all at a challenging but exciting time in the higher education sector.

Whether your senior management experience is in the education or another sector, you’ll bring to the role a considerable track record – managing resources, operations and budgets, and leading and developing high performing teams. Highly organised, strategic and methodical, you are also flexible, calm and resilient.

UAL is committed to addressing the under-representation of staff from Black and Minority Ethnic communities, using our student profile as a reference point.

In return, University of the Arts London offers generous leave, an attractive salary and pension plus a commitment to your continuing personal development and training in an environment that encourages excellence, creativity, and diversity. If you have any queries about the recruitment process, please contact the CSM Resourcing Team on: 0207 514 7885 or jobenquiries@csm.arts.ac.uk

If you would like more details of the role, you may contact the Central Saint Martins College Planning and Continuous Improvement Manager Kate Wood Hill on k.woodhill@arts.ac.uk.
