Technical Resources Manager (Technical Operations)

The opportunity

As part of the technical management team, working closely with the Head of Technical Resources, the Technical Operations Manager is responsible for the provision of technical operations management across Central Saint Martins. This will include the direct line management of several of our Technical Coordinators, who in turn manage the following technical clusters; 3D Make, Materials, Fashion Textiles, Archway and Learning Technology Support.

Strong technical operational delivery is important. But what will make the difference is how you work with people and balance the needs of the academic programme with technical resources available, forging collaborative relationships between academic and technical colleagues to ensure the best possible student experience. A solid technical background will be crucial as will experience of managing; technical infrastructure such as LEV, student technical inductions, health and safety and capital projects.

You will provide specialist technical management taking an overview of technical operations, develop clear strategies and implement policies that enhance the user experience of using our technical facilities at CSM. As an active member of the Technical Management team you will attend certain University and College Committees and deputise for the Head of Technical Resources where necessary.

About you

You will have extensive experience of leading technical and operational delivery in a complex environment, gained through working in higher education and/or creative or heritage industries.

You should have a strong holistic knowledge of creative practice in arts and design, with an innovative and reflexive approach to making and resourcing for making.

You will consider equality, diversity and inclusivity in all aspects of technical resource design, and you’ll collaborate and work effectively across different professional groups.

You must be able to plan, prioritise and manage resources effectively to achieve objectives, and consider sustainable design, process and materials that contribute to the advancement of sustainable activity relevant to the workplace and the goals University. A solid understanding of safe workshop infrastructure, and how this relates to building and Estates services, and professional experience in the regulation of health and safety. An interest in emerging technologies for industrial design and Maker culture would be advantageous.
