The opportunity

The UAL Events team within the Development Department delivers a programme of high-level cultivation and stewardship events for external audiences, designed to foster meaningful relationships between UAL and its friends, donors and external stakeholders.

The team also provides a hub of event management expertise within the central University, supporting wider institutional strategic priorities that sit across Colleges, such as Executive Board events, Institute activities and Graduation ceremonies.

The Event Manager is a new role within the team. Supported by an Events Officer, the post-holder will lead on the end-to-end planning and delivery of key events. Recently this has included the President’s Reception, Scholars’ Celebration, museum private tours, Meet The Artist discussions, donor tours and stakeholder dinners.

They will have the opportunity to help shape our future programming, working closely with the Head of Events to design creative and engaging events that expand our networks, delivering UAL’s strategic priorities and reflecting our world-leading credentials.

More broadly, the Event Manager will be an advocate for best practice in event management at UAL, advising colleagues across the university as required. In this capacity, the team has recently taken on the project management of UAL’s summer Graduation ceremonies, and the Event Manager will play a key operational role in the Graduation Working Group.

This is an important role for a creative individual with excellent attention to detail, who will ensure an exceptional experience for all stakeholders and the efficient delivery of UAL events.

About you

This role would suit someone with significant experience in end-to-end event management with limited supervision, covering a range of formats from receptions and discussions to tours and dinners. Your organisational skills will be impeccable and you will be comfortable building working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, including VIP event attendees.

You will be able to demonstrate your knowledge or understanding of the creative industries, translating this into engaging and innovative event ideas, designed against department objectives.

You will also have some experience of line managing a small team, as well as effectively supervising teams of event staff and volunteers.

Please see the attached Job Description for a full overview of duties and person specification.

In return, University of the Arts London offers generous leave, pension and a commitment to your continuing personal development and training in an environment that encourages excellence, creativity and diversity.

What we offer

We are UAL

UAL has a world-class reputation and is made up of 6 equally renowned Colleges: Camberwell College of Arts, Central Saint Martins, Chelsea College of Arts, London College of Communication, London College of Fashion and Wimbledon College of Arts. For the fourth year running, University of the Arts London (UAL) has been ranked second in the world for Art and Design in the QS World University Rankings® 2022.

This is an exciting time to join the university, as we recently launched our new 10 year strategy – The World Needs Creativity – to deliver our social purpose in a changing world. Key to delivering the strategy will be UAL’s first ever fundraising campaign, which aims to raise £50million for student support, academic excellence, social impact, and capital projects such as the new London College of Fashion and London College of Communication campuses.

The Events team within the UAL Development Department supports these objectives by delivering a programme of high-level cultivation and stewardship events for external audiences, designed to foster meaningful relationships between UAL and its friends, donors and external stakeholders.
