The opportunity

An exciting opportunity to further your Health and Safety expertise within a dynamic workplace that is undergoing rapid change as we support the University's renewed ambitions to improve the student experience and make creative learning safer and more accessible.

As a Health and Safety Coordinator, you will work collaboratively with staff across the University to champion and support safety. Specifically, this will entail:

  • Assisting with the administration, monitoring, and carrying out of fire risk assessments, Estates’ risk assessments, safe systems of work.
  • Assisting the Health and Safety (Estates, Fire & Digital) team carry out audits and inspections across the estate and help with the reporting and dissemination of reports on findings.
  • Monitoring Fire Safety and Estate incident logs.
  • Supporting, advising, and helping with the delivery of training and toolbox talks to key stakeholders in fire safety and estates safety compliance.
  • Supporting the development of Health and Safety management procedures within Estates and Digital teams.

Skills and personal characteristics needed to be a Health and Safety Coordinator include:

  • Affiable, friendly, and approachable demeanour
  • Willingness to be hands-on with staff and students
  • Able to inform others and explain safety policies and procedures
  • Ability to carry out job role duties within capabilities and competence
  • Capable of working in a team but also use using your own initiative

You'll also need:

  • Brilliant communication skills, including listening and excellent writing
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and be tech savvy
  • Good time and organisation skills
  • Excellent observational skills
  • Ability to be professional and maintain confidentiality

This will be a competency based interview (STAR) and all candidates need to explain their skills and knowledge against the person specification and job description.
